Ideapad P400 Brightness Not Working

Hello,I just installed the free Windows 10 upgrade on my Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch last night. I woke up this morning and booted up my computer, and everything was fine until I attempted to change the brightness. When I tried to do this, my screen went very dim, and now I can't adjust the brightness (and I can't read my screen well, either). Normally, I would install/reinstall the video driver in order to fix this problem (recommended for other users with similar issues), but I currently do not see a Windows 10 version of the driver I need on the Lenovo website.I was wondering:a) if/when a new driver would be available to install (if that's the recommended solution)b) is there something else going on?c) Windows 10 allows you to revert back to Windows 8.1 within the first month of use. Should I just do this?d) Is the p400 touch capable of running Windows 10? Why or why not?Thank you!

The display is suddenly too dim on my ideapad P400 Touch, the brightness controls have no effect. Monitor connection that I used for dual monitor setup when I work at home. Not

Hello. I also have a Lenovo Ideapad p400 touch. Screen also went dim on me. In Windows 8.1 just uninstalling graphic's driver worked. It was Control Panel, Device Manager and then Display Adapters. That doesn't work with Windows 10. The other solution of rebooting and press the increase brightness key at the Lenovo logo somewhat works but it doesn't turn the brightness all the way up. So I found this worked for me: Go here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-p-series-laptops/ideapad-p400-touch-notebook/downloads/DS031547 And just download and reinstall the old graphics driver for Windows 8. That finally got me back to maximum brightness.

  • Hi Everyone,
I would just like to share this little issue I have with this new laptop I bought - I got this Lenovo Ideapad S410p touch from the Lenovo branch in SM Cubao, Philippines. This issue seems to repeat when I let my laptop stay idle, it would automatically go to the boot menu. After choosing the option to boot from disk drive, or pressing ESC it just goes back to boot menu and not boot the OS. Then I would need to long press and hold the power button so I could turn it off then turn it back on. Have you guys ever had this issue? I keep getting this one and have been searching the internet/forums without fruition.
Hope devs from Lenovo take a look at this one. Laptop is about a month old and is already acting up.

here are some of the pics of what it goes to when it's on idle

There are no drivers available for Windows 8. I suggest checking in the Control Panel/Sound/Recording to assure that your microphone is selected. It seems that the Sound is one area that gets changed when updating to Win 8.1. At least, this is what happened to me.

  • Ipod touch screen went black and then started flashing. Then the turn off slide comes up. Restored multiple times and didn't work. Ipod works with Itunes fine (can put music and podcasts on the ipod), but can't take songs off of the ipod. Using windows xp and everything is up to date. Any ideas of how to fix it?

I didn't know that it was posted three times. My computer didn't say that it posted anything.
My ipod still syncs to itunes and I can put podcasts and music on my ipod, but I can't delete songs after I put them on the ipod. When I try to delete songs I try to delete it from the main music list on the ipod. It's also doing all the other stuff that I posted before. The screen will go black and then the power off slider thing shows up for a few seconds, then it'll show the unlock slider bar. Then goes black again. It will also do that when I have the ipod unocked and changing songs or playing a game. I've restored it to the factory default/new ipod and it still does the same thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and then restored it again to the factory default and it's still doing the same exact thing. I checked and my computer is up to date.

  • Hello! I really appreciate if anyone would tell me what's wrong with my iPod touch.
I have been using my iPod touch for less than a year, and honestly, I have quite a bad habit: I always use it for playing games. And sometimes, I even use it while it is charging. Usually it's fine, nothing went wrong, so I keep doing the same thing sometimes.
one day, I'm visiting my relative and tried to charge my iPod. Since my iPod doesn't have an adaptor, I usually charge it using my laptop (the seller told me to charge it in a laptop/computer). One day, I borrowed my cousin's laptop to charge my iPod, but she only gave me an adaptor (not made for iPod or any apple products, but it fits so I thought it's okay). But the next day, I found out that my iPod went off by itself and I know that my battery isn't low.
I Tried to charge it using my laptop at home, but it still went off! Also, it went normal in my laptop (the iTunes appeared automatically, as a sign that my iPod is charging). So, I tried to restore it and I worked (at least I thought so), until I saw my screen went fuzzy (pink and white stripes). So, almost everyday I turn off my iPod, turn it on again, wait for a while, then use it normally. Usually it lasts 'normal' for hours, but it will still be error as usual.
    So, my question is:
What makes my iPod touch screen went fuzzy?
Is it because I used it while charging?
Is it because I charged it with an adaptor that is not made for Apple products?
please help me, I don't know what else to do! I have restored it, I didn't download many applications like I used to before, and I left it alone when I was charging (I didn't play it while it's charging any more), and I even didn't turn on the Wi-Fi if I'm not using it (I almost NEVER turn off the Wi-Fi before my iPod touch went error)
    Thank you for answering..

  • I just recently got a Lenovo Ideapad U430, and I already don't like Windows 8, which came with it. I went to install Win7 x64 Professional today. I did what I usually do whenever I reinstall Windows: I downloaded the ISO from the Microsoft website, I burned it to a usb drive using the official Microsoft tool, and went into BIOS to boot from the flash drive. However, I am unsure about how to go about actually installing it. I ran into some trouble with the partitions, but was able to shrink the Windows 8 partition and create a new 210.9GB one for win7. Unfortunately, when I went to install 7, it said that the partition could not be used since its apparently a GPT styled partition. My dad tried formatting it and some other things, but it never worked. When he looked online, all he could find was issues regarding the USB drive not being UEFI or something; it was confusing.
My main question is whether or not its fully safe to Windows 7 on this machine. That's the main reason wanted to keep Windows 8 on there, in case 7 didn't work. So... would it be ok to fully format the harddrive and install Windows 7 clean on it? I'm mainly concerned about driver compatability and whether or not messing with the partitions will mess up the laptop in some way.

I'm not sure about your partition issue as I'm running 8.1 but you can use the generic Intel drivers for Windows 8.x or Windows 7, depending on the OS version you're running.
    You can find them here:
    http://intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
Lenovo drivers are old and have bugs that have since been fixed by Intel.

  • I wish to upgrade to windows 8 on my Lenovo u460 but I'm worried about driver compatibility issues. Can I just carry over the same win7 drivers onto windows 8? I'm mostly concerned about my nvidia 305m/Intel HD switchable graphics driver. Can someone point me to where I can get the correct drivers for my laptop? I looked through some of the lenovo resources but I couldn't find what I needed.
    Thanks.

    hi de1337ed,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Windows 8 has a built-in driver database where it detects and installs the right driver for your system, In an event that it doesn't detect your devices correctly, in this case, the Intel HD+GeForce 305M, you need to install the Intel HD Graphics first then install the Nvidia drivers
Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7* and Windows 8* 64 (zip)
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html
If you can't get the Nvidia drivers to install, you need to mod the inf file and add the device ID (see link below):
Modding 101 - Missing Optimus Device IDs
    Hope this helps

  • My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a 'good' solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). If Lenovo want to make customer happy, the part shouldn't be so expensive for a short-lived laptop! Just by the way, there are many posts about Ideapad's black screen issue, and many blameed window 8.1 for the compatibility problem. It made me thought so too because the initial sympton was exactly the same. The best thing you should do: don't waste time on fixing the driver or config, get the hardware replaced as soon as you could when still in warranty. If not so lucky, probably think it twice next time when you want to buy a Lenovo.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Sorry to hear of all the problems. Here are a couple of things to try........
First, try a reset of the BIOS. The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have. Just do this......
    1. Unplug the charger / adapter.
    2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds.
    3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.
If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........
Try the reset again with the battery removed.
If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.
The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. The manual will explain how to remove the various hardware items. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_u310_u410_hmm_1st_edition_mar_2012_english.pdf
There is also a Lenovo Training video that will show you how to remove the various items. These are listed in the FRU section.

  • Hello, I just three days ago bought a brand-new Edge 15 laptop, about which I'm very excited, and while I'm not usually the kind of person who likes touch screens on his laptops I want it to work since I know it comes with it! When I first opened it, the touchscreen worked perfectly fine, but as soon as I installed the first round of Windows updates (I believe 8->8.1?) it suddenly stopped working. I installed the second round of updates and it worked for a hot second but now it doesn't work again. If I pull up the device manager, no touchscreen appears under 'Human Interface Devices' but a device does appear under 'USB Controllers' labeled 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)' I can't for the life of me find the drivers for the Edge 15 touchscreen on the Lenovo support website and nothing I'm finding for any other laptop touchscreen problems appears to be helping. Anyone have any help? Has anyone seen this before? Where's the incompatability between Windows 8.1 and my new touchscreen? Why is the device descriptor request failing? I only just bought the laptop! Thanks!

Alright... it spontaneously was working for about 20 minutes just now. Don't know what changed, and I don't know why it stopped working again. O_o

  • Ever since the upgrade to Windows 10 the option to use touch on my TouchSmart 300-1115uk has disappeared. I have used the Device Manager to locate and uninstall what I believe to be all of the HID Touch Drivers in an attempt to force the PC to download the latest ones on reboot, but this hasn't fixed the issue. I'm aware that in the Control Panel settings, under the Pen and Touch section there is supposed to be a checkbox to enable the use of a finger as a touch device. Since the upgrade to Windows 10, this checkbox no longer displays. I had suspected that perhaps the touch screen drivers weren't even installed along with the new OS, so I've tried downloading the Windows 7 version of the drivers from your website only to be told by Windows that all downloads from HP are blocked. I know your support message states that driver updates are available from the update panel in Windows 10, but I've checked every day since the OS was installed and there hasn't been one for the touch screen. Hopefully somebody else is having this same problem, because I've searched everywhere and haven't managed to find a smiliar complaint.

Hi Guys Most of my Touchscreen capability has now returned - hooray! This happened after me persisting further with a few fixes on the HP Troubleshooting 'Touchscreen' tab for Windows 8 The one that worked for me was to go into Control Panel/Device Manager/Human Interface Devices - and to 'uninstall' the HID named driver that sits within Human Interface Devices (can apparently have a few name variations but starts with HID). You then restart. I did this a few times and the PC automatically 'kick-started' the HID driver back again (I didn't have to re-install it - the notebook performed this function itself) I spoke to a few tech mates who reckoned a touchscreen driver uninstall would force my notebook to reinstall itself also - paricularly as this is a Windows 8/8.1 upgrade to Windows 10 whereby the two versions share a lot of common features 'under the bonnet' unlike Windows Vista and XP. So - phew! Hope this helps some other folks whose system will maybe respond in the same way...? Else it's playing a waiting game for HP or Windows Updates to apply a fix - Or do a roll-back/uninstall Windows 10 GOOD LUCK! PS I had to get a refund from a 'Just Ask' forum expert 'cos she was simply suggesting stuff I'd already covered through google and forums - this shows me how valuable communicating with each other can be - and that a lot of the time there's an easy fix out there - that we can find and apply ourselves (fingers and toes crossed!). I'm no tech expert - but to all those frustrated folks out there - 'you are not alone.' Hoping this gets sorted for everyone...'til the next time!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
